To cancel an RCI membership, contact RCI before your term expires: Points members can cancel by phone or in writing, and Weeks members must cancel in writing.1RCI. RCI Points Terms and Conditions2RCI. RCI Weeks Membership Terms and Conditions Points members are entitled to a pro-rated refund of unused dues. One thing to be clear on before you pick up the phone: canceling RCI ends your access to the exchange network, not your timeshare. Maintenance fees, mortgage payments, and assessments owed to your home resort developer keep coming regardless of your RCI status, and getting out of the timeshare itself is a separate process handled with the developer, not with RCI.
Cancel by Phone or by Letter

- Your RCI Member ID, which is the account identifier5RCI. RCI – My Account Explained
- The mailing address on file
- A clear statement that you are canceling, effective immediately or at the end of the current term
- A request to stop automatic billing and revoke authorization for future card or bank charges
- A request for written confirmation once processed
The Points terms warn that RCI may require “additional signed documents” to complete the cancellation.1RCI. RCI Points Terms and Conditions If two members are on the account, expect both signatures to be needed.
Pro-Rated Refund of Dues
The RCI Points terms set out the refund formula for unused dues. Take the total dues you paid, divide by the number of months in your membership period, then multiply by the number of full months remaining. Anything you still owe RCI is subtracted before the refund is issued.1RCI. RCI Points Terms and Conditions The formula runs across the full term you purchased, so a multi-year membership refunds on the same monthly basis.
One carve-out: RCI reserves the right not to refund dues tied to a Platinum upgrade or other tier upgrades, even when it refunds the base subscription.1RCI. RCI Points Terms and Conditions A one-year RCI Points subscription runs $134,6RCI.com. Points Member Fees U.S. so the dollar amounts are modest for a standard annual account. The more months remaining, the more you get back, which is the practical reason not to sit on a decision to cancel.
What You Lose When You Cancel
This is the part that catches people. On termination, any deposits and any points sitting in your account become RCI’s property. The terms say they will not be released “unless released by the Network Administrator in its sole discretion.”1RCI. RCI Points Terms and Conditions RCI can also cancel any confirmed exchanges scheduled after your cancellation date, and the exchange fees you paid to book them are not refunded.
Exchange fees outside the standard grace period do not come back either.7RCI.com. Travel/Cancel Information Before you send the cancellation, use or transfer your points and finalize any trips you still want to take. Once the account closes, you have no leverage to get any of it back.
Timing Around Your Renewal Date
RCI memberships renew annually, and dues are charged before the next term begins. If you want to avoid paying for another year, get your cancellation in well ahead of the renewal date on your account. A cancellation that arrives after the charge posts turns into a refund dispute you did not need to have. Aim for at least 30 days out.
For Weeks members, the terms allow termination at any time, provided you have not already received a confirmed exchange against a current deposit.2RCI. RCI Weeks Membership Terms and Conditions Check that first if you have recent activity on the account.
Confirm It Actually Went Through
Watch for written confirmation from RCI. Try logging in at rci.com after a few weeks; if access has been revoked, the cancellation likely processed. More important than the login test: check your bank and credit card statements for at least two billing cycles. If charges keep appearing, dispute them with your bank and provide your cancellation documentation as evidence. That is why the certified mail receipt or the notes from your phone call matter — they are the proof you canceled on the date you say you did.
Avoid Timeshare Exit Companies
Ads from firms offering to “get you out” of a timeshare or exchange membership for a fee are common, and the Federal Trade Commission warns that many are scams. Red flags include unsolicited calls, guarantees to cancel your contract, large upfront fees, and instructions to stop paying your mortgage or maintenance fees. Canceling an RCI membership is something you can do yourself at no cost with a phone call or a certified letter, and the FTC advises researching any exit-service company and searching for complaints before signing or paying anything.8Federal Trade Commission.
