How to Cancel Your Care.com Caregiver Subscription

To cancel a Care.com caregiver subscription, log in to your account, open your settings, and select “Pause account & cancel recurring billing,” then click “Change Plan” and follow the prompts to the final “Cancel Recurring Billing” button. If you subscribed through the iPhone or Android app, you cancel through Apple or Google Play instead. Either way, your premium features stay active through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, and no future charges apply.¹

Cancel Through Your Care.com Account

Sign in at Care.com and go to your account settings. Select “Pause account & cancel recurring billing,” then tap “Change Plan.” Care.com will ask a few questions about your experience before showing you the final “Cancel Recurring Billing” button. Expect a few retention screens along the way offering discounts or a lower-cost plan. Keep clicking through until you reach the last confirmation.¹

Save the confirmation email. It’s the only proof you’ll have if a charge shows up later and you need to dispute it.

One catch: some caregiver accounts with an expired background check can’t access the cancel or close options in settings. If that’s you, use Care.com’s support channels. Log in, click the green “Contact us” button in the bottom-right corner, and pick a phone callback, live chat, or email.²

Cancel Through Apple or Google Play

If you signed up in the Care.com app on your phone, the Care.com website can’t process the cancellation. You have to cancel through whichever platform is billing you.

iPhone

Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap “Subscriptions.” Find Care.com in the list, tap it, and tap “Cancel Subscription.” If there’s no cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already canceled. Apple can process renewal charges up to 24 hours before your next billing date, so cancel at least a full day early.³

Android

Open Settings, tap “Google,” then your name, then “Manage your Google Account.” Go to “Payments & subscriptions,” select “Manage subscriptions,” find the Care.com entry, and cancel from there. Google Play can process renewals up to two days early, so give yourself several days of buffer before your billing date.⁴

Pause or Close? Pick Carefully

Caregivers have a choice families don’t get, and the difference matters.

Pausing stops the annual background check renewal charge but keeps your profile, messages, applications, and account history intact. Your profile stays visible in search results until your current background check expires.¹

Closing is permanent. It disables all your service profiles and removes access to your entire Care.com history, including every message and application. If you might come back someday, pause instead.¹

What You Keep and What You Lose

Cancellation stops future charges but doesn’t cut you off immediately. Your paid features stay active through the end of the billing cycle you’ve already paid for. After that, the account drops to a free basic membership.

On a free caregiver account, you can still set up a profile, search and apply for jobs, and respond to potential employers. What goes away is the featured badge in search results and the included background check.⁵

Refunds Are Unlikely

Care.com does not offer refunds on caregiver premium memberships or on background checks purchased through the platform, unless the specific terms at the time you signed up said otherwise. Background checks run through Sterling or First Advantage are explicitly non-refundable.⁶

You won’t get a prorated refund for the unused portion of your current term. The practical move: if you’re sure you want out, cancel right after a billing cycle so you get the full paid period behind you.

If You’re Charged After Canceling

If a charge hits your statement after you canceled, your recourse depends on how you paid.

For credit card charges, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you 60 days from the date the statement was sent to dispute the billing error in writing with your card issuer. The issuer must acknowledge the dispute within 30 days and resolve it within two billing cycles.⁷

For debit card or direct bank charges, Regulation E lets you stop a preauthorized recurring transfer by notifying your bank at least three business days before the next scheduled charge. To report an unauthorized charge and limit your liability, you have 60 days from when the bank sent the statement containing it.⁸

Your cancellation confirmation email is the piece of evidence that matters most. The timestamp settles the question.

Separately, the FTC’s amended Negative Option Rule requires subscription sellers to make canceling as easy as signing up: if you enrolled online, you must be able to cancel online. If Care.com’s process makes cancellation significantly harder than the sign-up, that’s a potential violation, and companies that break the rule can face civil penalties and be required to provide refunds. You can file a complaint at ftc.gov.⁹
