To cancel a Carbonite subscription, sign in at account.carbonite.com, open Subscriptions, click Options next to the plan you want to end, and turn off auto-renewal. That single switch stops Carbonite from charging you again. Your backup keeps running until the period you already paid for expires, and after that you get a grace period of 30 or 60 days, depending on the plan, to download your files before they are deleted for good.1Carbonite. Turning Off Auto-Renewal
Carbonite has no button labeled “cancel.” You end the subscription by deactivating auto-renewal:
- Sign in at account.carbonite.com.
- Click Subscriptions in the account dashboard.
- Click Options in the Manage column next to the subscription you want to cancel. If you see Install instead of Options, install Carbonite on a computer first, then refresh the page.
- Click Turn OFF Auto-Renewal in the confirmation window.
The subscription stays active through the end of the period you already paid for. You can keep backing up and restoring files until that date. Once it passes, the software stops working on your computer.1Carbonite. If You Can’t Sign In
If you’ve forgotten your password, reset it from the login page by entering your email address and verifying through a text message, phone call, or the security questions you set up when you created the account.2Carbonite Support. Resetting Your Carbonite Password
If you no longer have access to the email address on the account, the self-service reset won’t work, because the process depends on that email. Call Carbonite support at 1-877-222-5488 and press 1 for Customer Support. Phone lines run Monday through Friday and are closed on weekends, with reduced hours around major U.S. holidays. You can also submit a billing question through the contact form at support.carbonite.com, though phone is faster.3Carbonite. Contact Carbonite Support
Getting a Refund
Turning off auto-renewal does not refund what you’ve already paid. Carbonite’s policy is that mid-term fees aren’t refunded. There is one exception: if your subscription just renewed, you can request a full refund within 30 days of the renewal purchase date. The 30-day window applies across Safe Basic, Plus, and Prime, and the business Safe Backup Pro plans.4Carbonite Support. Carbonite Cancellations and Refunds
Refunds are handled only by phone. Call 1-877-222-5488 with your billing information ready. One important catch: once a refund is processed, your backed-up data is permanently removed from Carbonite’s servers and the software stops working on your computer immediately. No additional grace period follows a refund.4Carbonite Support. Carbonite Cancellations and Refunds If any of the files you care about live only in Carbonite, download them to your computer or another cloud service before you make the call.
What Happens to Your Files After You Cancel
Your data doesn’t disappear the moment the paid period ends. The account enters a grace period during which you can still restore files:
- Carbonite Safe (Basic, Plus, Prime): 30 days after expiration.
- Carbonite Safe Backup Pro (Core, Power, Ultimate): 60 days after expiration.
After the grace period ends, Carbonite permanently removes all backed-up data from its servers. It cannot be recovered.5Carbonite. Storage of Data After Expiration
Start downloading anything you need as soon as you turn off auto-renewal. A large backup can take days depending on your internet speed, and you don’t want to hit the deletion date with a half-finished restore. You can restore to the same computer that backed the files up, or pull them to a different machine.
