You can’t fully cancel Xfinity from inside the app. The Xfinity app will let you start the conversation through its built-in Assistant chatbot, but it will hand you off to a phone call at 1-800-934-6489, a scheduled callback, or an in-person visit to an Xfinity Retail Store to finalize the disconnection.1Xfinity. How to Cancel, Pause, or Move your Xfinity Services Knowing that up front saves you from hunting for a cancel button that isn’t there.
What the App Will and Won’t Do
The app handles day-to-day account tasks well. Pay a bill, check data usage, troubleshoot the connection, tweak plan details — all fine. Cancellation is the exception. Xfinity’s official cancellation page lists three routes: calling support, scheduling a call, or visiting a store. There is no “cancel my service” toggle buried in account settings.1Xfinity. How to Cancel, Pause, or Move your Xfinity Services
Some users report the cancellation flow doesn’t surface at all depending on how the account was originally set up. If you can’t find a path in the app, that’s not something you’re doing wrong. Go to xfinity.com/cancel in a browser or contact support directly.
Only the primary account holder or a user with a Manager role can cancel. Member and Viewer profiles don’t have the access level.2Xfinity. Manage User Roles and Permissions on Xfinity Accounts If someone else set up the account, they’ll need to handle the cancellation or promote your profile first.
Starting the Cancellation in the App
Open the app, tap the chat or support icon to reach the Xfinity Assistant, and type something direct like “cancel my service.” The Assistant will ask verification questions and try to route your request.
Have your 16-digit account number ready before you start. In the app, go to the Account tab, tap Account Settings, and look under Account Details. Tap the eye icon to reveal the full number. Only Primary and Manager profiles can see it.2Xfinity. Manage User Roles and Permissions on Xfinity Accounts
Expect a few prompts asking why you’re leaving, and expect retention offers — a discounted rate, a temporary pause on service. If you want to actually cancel, keep your answers consistent. The Assistant will eventually either transfer you to a live agent inside the chat or point you at the phone number or a store. That handoff is where the app’s role ends.
Finishing the Cancellation Off the App
Once you’re handed off, you have three ways to close it out:
- Phone: Call 1-800-934-6489, the number Xfinity lists on its official cancellation page. Expect a retention pitch before the agent processes your request.
- Scheduled callback: Through xfinity.com/cancel, ask Xfinity to call you at a set time so you’re not sitting on hold.
- In-store visit: Walk into any Xfinity Retail Store. You can cancel and return equipment in one trip.
Whichever method you use, get a confirmation number or reference ID before you hang up or leave. Screenshot it or write it down. It’s your proof that you requested cancellation on a specific date, which matters if billing disputes come up later.
Fees, Refunds, and Money-Back Windows
Current Xfinity Internet plans don’t carry annual contracts or early termination fees. You can cancel any time without a penalty.3Xfinity. Xfinity Internet – Home Internet Service Older promotions with a minimum-term agreement may still have an ETF attached, but Xfinity has confirmed none of their current promotions include one. If you signed up recently, this shouldn’t be a concern.
New customers get a 30-day money-back guarantee on TV, Internet, and Voice. Cancel within that window and those service charges are refunded. Xfinity Mobile has a 14-day window that also covers device returns and exchanges.4Xfinity. What Is the Xfinity Customer Commitment
Any remaining ETF on a legacy contract can be waived in specific situations: active-duty military transfers, the death of an account holder, natural disasters that force a move, or restarting service within 90 days of disconnecting. If you’re told you owe a termination fee and one of these fits, push back with the agent.
Xfinity Mobile Doesn’t Cancel Automatically
Canceling Internet, TV, or Voice does not cancel Xfinity Mobile. The mobile line stays active, and because it’s no longer bundled with a qualifying home service, a $25 per month standalone fee gets added to each future mobile bill.5Xfinity. What Happens With My Xfinity Mobile Account if I Move to a New Address or Cancel My Other Xfinity Services That fee catches a lot of people off guard.
Xfinity Mobile has its own cancellation process, handled by a different department. Address both cancellations explicitly rather than assuming the home service call covers the mobile line.
Returning Your Equipment
After disconnection, you need to return leased equipment: the gateway modem, router, any TV boxes, and remotes. Only the device, remote, and power cord need to go back. Keep the HDMI, Ethernet, and coaxial cables.6Xfinity. How to Return Your Xfinity Equipment
Two ways to return:
- UPS shipping: Go to xfinity.com/returns, follow the steps for your device, and print a prepaid label. Box the equipment in any cardboard box, attach the label, and drop it at any UPS location.
- Xfinity Retail Store: Bring the equipment in. Staff will give you a receipt confirming what was returned and when.6Xfinity. How to Return Your Xfinity Equipment
The return window runs roughly 10 to 14 days after service ends. Miss it and unreturned equipment charges hit your account, sometimes over $100 per item. In-store returns are safer because you walk out with a physical receipt. If you ship, track the package and hold the tracking number until the charge clears.
Your Final Bill
The last statement can look unfamiliar. Xfinity says the final bill may include prorated charges, equipment fees, and items not present on prior statements.7Xfinity. What to Know When Canceling Your Xfinity Services If you cancel mid-cycle, prorated credits for the unused portion are calculated automatically, and charges dated after your disconnection should credit overnight.
Check your account for about 30 days after returning equipment. That’s typically how long it takes for the final statement to generate and the balance to settle. If a charge doesn’t make sense, call before it moves to collections. Your cancellation confirmation number and equipment return receipt make disputes go much faster.
Keeping Your Comcast Email
If you use an @comcast.net or @xfinity.com address, canceling service doesn’t automatically kill it. You can keep the address as long as you signed into the Xfinity Email website at least once during the 90 days before disconnection. This applies to primary and secondary email accounts alike.8Xfinity. Use Xfinity Email if You’ve Disconnected Your Service
After disconnection, log in through the Xfinity Email website at least once every nine months to keep the address active.8Xfinity. Use Xfinity Email if You’ve Disconnected Your Service If it’s been a while, sign in before you start the cancellation. Cloud DVR recordings don’t get the same treatment — without new Xfinity service at another address, those recordings are likely gone.
