How to Cancel Sam’s Club Auto Renewal: Website, App, or Phone

To cancel Sam’s Club auto-renewal, sign in to your account on samsclub.com or in the Sam’s Club app and switch off the auto-renew setting, or call 888-746-7726, or stop by the Membership Desk at any club. The renewal fee posts to a payment method on file about one day before your term ends, so the sooner you turn it off, the safer you are. Your membership still runs through the expiration date you already paid for.¹

Who Can Turn It Off and What You Need

Only the primary member or the complimentary household cardholder can change the auto-renew setting. Add-on cardholders don’t have permission, so if someone else on the account is trying to do this, they’ll need to hand it back to the primary member or call Sam’s Club directly. Have your login credentials and your membership number ready. The membership number is on the back of your physical card and inside the app under your profile.¹

Cancel Auto-Renewal on the Website

Log in at samsclub.com and open your account dashboard from the top navigation bar. Go into membership settings and look for the auto-renew option. The path routes you through a link labeled “Cancel Membership” to reach the unenrollment page. Don’t let the wording throw you. You’re not ending your membership today; you’re stopping the automatic charge, and your membership (along with any add-on cards) will simply expire on its listed date instead of renewing.¹

An on-screen confirmation appears once the change goes through. Screenshot it. If a charge somehow still posts, that screenshot is your fastest route to a refund.

Cancel Auto-Renewal in the App

Open the Sam’s Club app and tap the account icon at the bottom. Go to membership management and slide the auto-renew toggle to off. A confirmation notification appears in the app.

One thing to know before you try a workaround: when you enrolled in auto-renewal, you authorized Sam’s Club to charge any card on file or any payment method in your digital wallet. Deleting the card you originally signed up with won’t stop the renewal, because Sam’s Club can attempt the charge on other saved payment methods. Turning off auto-renew is the only reliable way to prevent it.¹

Cancel by Phone or at a Club

Call 888-746-7726 and tell the representative you want to turn off auto-renewal. You’ll need to verify account details, so keep your membership number handy.²

You can also walk into any club and go to the Membership Desk. Bring a government-issued photo ID and your membership number. The associate updates the setting on the spot and can give you a printed or digital receipt of the change.³

What Happens After You Turn It Off

Your membership stays active through the expiration date you already paid for. You can keep shopping, using Scan & Go, and earning Sam’s Cash until that date passes.¹

Watch your Sam’s Cash. It doesn’t expire while your membership is active, but if the membership stays deactivated for six months or longer, Sam’s Club forfeits the entire remaining balance. If you’re sitting on a meaningful amount, spend it before the membership lapses or renew before that six-month window closes.⁴

If You’ve Already Been Charged

Sam’s Club offers a 100% Membership Satisfaction Guarantee. If you’re unsatisfied at any time, you can request a cancellation and a refund of the amount you paid for the current year’s membership fee. Call the customer service line or visit a club to start the process.⁵

Plus members who’d rather step down than cancel outright can ask for a downgrade. Sam’s Club reimburses the difference between the Plus and Club fees to the card originally charged. It’s limited to one downgrade refund per household or business per year, and you have to be an active member to receive it. Refunds for prior membership years aren’t available, so act within the current billing cycle.⁵
