To cancel PS Plus on the PlayStation App, sign in with the account that holds your subscription, open Subscription Management under your account settings, select PlayStation Plus, and tap Cancel Subscription or Turn Off Auto-Renewal. The whole thing takes about two minutes. You keep your benefits until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, and no call to support is needed.
Steps to Cancel in the App
Open the PlayStation App on your phone and confirm you’re signed in with the PlayStation Network account tied to the subscription. If two-step verification is on, enter the code sent to your device before you can reach account settings.
- Tap your profile icon or avatar, then find the Subscription Management section under your account or payment settings.
- Select PlayStation Plus. Your active subscription will show its next payment date and the amount that will be charged.
- Tap Cancel Subscription or Turn Off Auto-Renewal, depending on which version of the app you have.
- Confirm. The app may ask why you’re leaving through a short survey. Complete the prompts and tap the final confirmation button.
Once you confirm, auto-renewal stops and no future charges go to your payment method. One thing worth knowing: removing your credit card or PayPal from your account does not cancel the subscription on its own. If you skip the cancellation steps, the system will still try to charge you on the next billing date.
Canceling Through a Web Browser Instead
If the app is giving you trouble, sign in at the PlayStation account management page in any web browser, choose Subscription from the left-side menu, and select Cancel Subscription next to PlayStation Plus. The outcome is the same.
What Happens After You Cancel
Cancellation doesn’t cut off access right away. You keep every PS Plus benefit until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for. Cancel three months into an annual plan and you still have nine months of access. The app will start showing an Expiry Date instead of a Next Renewal Date, which confirms no future payment is scheduled.
A confirmation email should arrive at the address on your PSN account. Save it. If a charge appears after you’ve canceled, that email is your best evidence when disputing it with your bank or payment provider.
When the expiration date passes, you lose the benefits tied to your tier: online multiplayer, the monthly games you claimed, exclusive discounts, and cloud storage. Claimed games stay in your library with a lock icon, but you can’t play them until you resubscribe.
Cloud Saves and Claimed Games
While your subscription is active, PS5 owners get up to 100GB of cloud storage for game saves. After it lapses, you can’t access those saves, but Sony doesn’t wipe them immediately. Cloud save data is generally retained for about six months after your subscription ends, which gives you a window to resubscribe and recover them.
Monthly games you claimed stay tied to your account permanently, locked behind an active subscription. Resubscribe to the same tier and you regain access to everything you previously claimed, provided it hasn’t been pulled from the service. Titles from the Extra and Premium catalogs work more like a streaming library: if a game leaves the catalog while you’re unsubscribed, you lose access to it even after you come back.
Refund Window
Sony offers a 14-day window to cancel a subscription purchase and get a refund, even if you’ve already used the service. This applies to both new subscriptions and renewals. After 14 days, you won’t get a refund for payments already made.
If you signed up through a free trial, the 14-day period starts the day the trial begins, not when the first paid charge hits. A seven-day trial that converts to a paid subscription leaves you only seven days after the first charge to request a refund.
To ask for one, go to your transaction history on the PlayStation Store, select the eligible transaction, and follow the prompts. If the automated flow fails, reach PlayStation Support through the online assistant or contact page.
Downgrading Instead of Canceling
If your real goal is spending less rather than leaving PS Plus altogether, you can drop to a cheaper tier. Essential runs $79.99 per year, Extra is $134.99, and Premium is $159.99. Going from Premium to Essential cuts your annual cost roughly in half.
A downgrade doesn’t take effect immediately. You keep your current tier’s benefits until the next payment date, and then the cheaper tier kicks in. There’s no partial credit or prorated refund for the remaining time on your higher-tier plan. You ride out what you’ve paid for, then start paying the lower rate at renewal.
