To cancel a Google AI subscription, go to the same place you signed up: the Google One website if you subscribed directly, the Google Play Store on Android, the App Store on iPhone or iPad, or the Google Admin console if it’s a Workspace add-on. The cancellation path is different in each place, and using the wrong one is the most common reason people keep getting charged.1Google Account Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies
Cancel Through a Web Browser
If you signed up directly through Google, sign in at one.google.com, open your subscription settings, and choose the option to cancel your plan. Google runs you through a short set of confirmation screens and then emails you a cancellation notice with the effective date.1Google Account Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies
Keep that email. If a charge appears on your card after the cancellation date, it’s the quickest evidence for Google support or your bank.
Cancel on Android Through Google Play
Subscriptions started on an Android device are billed through Google Play, not through the Google One website. Open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, go to Subscriptions, select the Google AI plan, and tap Cancel. Do this before your next renewal date. Once a new billing cycle begins, you’re locked in for that month.
Uninstalling the Gemini app does not cancel the subscription. The billing agreement lives in your Play Store account, so you have to cancel through the Subscriptions menu explicitly.
Cancel on iPhone or iPad Through the App Store
Apple handles subscription billing for anything you signed up for on iOS. Open the App Store app, tap your name at the top, go to Subscriptions, find Google One, and tap Cancel Subscription.2Google One Help. Cancel Your Google One Membership
Google recommends a second step afterward: go to myaccount.google.com/deleteservices, sign in, select Google One, and confirm the cancellation there too. That removes the plan from your Google account instead of only stopping Apple’s billing. Skip it, and your account can sit in a confusing halfway state where the plan looks active but no payments are being sent.
Cancel a Workspace Gemini Add-On
For a Gemini subscription tied to Google Workspace, a super administrator with billing privileges has to do the cancellation. In the Google Admin console, go to Billing, then Subscriptions, select the Gemini plan, click Cancel Subscription, pick a reason, review the details, check the confirmation box, and enter the administrator email to finalize.3Google Workspace Help. Cancel a Gemini Add-on Subscription
Canceling the add-on ends all Gemini licenses across the organization, but the underlying Workspace subscription stays active. If your company bought Gemini through a reseller instead of directly from Google, the Admin console won’t show a cancel option, and you’ll have to contact the reseller.
Refunds and Timing
Google’s general policy is that storage plan purchases are non-refundable. Your premium features stay available through the end of the current billing cycle regardless of when you cancel.4Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies To avoid being charged for the next cycle, cancel at least a week before your renewal date. Waiting until the day of renewal sometimes lets the charge process before the cancellation takes effect.
Some countries and regions allow immediate cancellation with a prorated refund for the remaining days. EU and UK customers have extra protections, including a 14-day withdrawal window for Google storage bought through the Play Store.4Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies For subscriptions bought through the App Store, refund requests go to Apple’s support team, not Google.
What Changes After You Cancel
Paid features stay on until the billing cycle ends, then the account drops to the free tier. Storage is the change most people notice. AI Plus includes 200 GB, AI Pro includes 5 TB, and AI Ultra starts at 20 TB, all of which collapse to the free 15 GB limit once the plan expires.4Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies5Google One. Google AI Plans with Cloud Storage
If your files, photos, and emails already use more than 15 GB, Google won’t delete anything immediately, but it will block new uploads. Gmail stops accepting incoming messages and Drive won’t sync new files until your usage drops under the limit.6Google Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies – Section: Cancel Your Subscription This is where people get caught out: they cancel the AI plan and don’t realize their email will stop working a couple of weeks later because it was relying on the bundled storage.
On the Gemini side, you lose the more powerful models and the deeper integration with Google apps. Free users still get the 2.5 Flash model and limited daily access to 2.5 Pro, so the chatbot itself doesn’t disappear. Your existing chat history stays accessible regardless of plan status.
A Note on AI Overviews in Search
The AI-generated summaries at the top of Google search results are a separate feature from any paid subscription. Canceling your Google AI plan does not remove them, and Google provides no official setting to turn them off.
