To cancel Aptive Pest Control, call the company or send written notice terminating your service agreement; if you signed at your door within the last three business days, you can cancel for free under federal law, and if you’re past that window but still inside your contract term, expect an early termination fee of around $199. The method you choose and the paper trail you keep matter, because billing disputes after cancellation are the most common problem customers report with this company.
Read Your Contract First
Before you call, pull out your service agreement and find three things: your account number, the date you signed, and the clause labeled “Notice of Cancellation” or similar. That clause sets the rules — how much notice you owe, whether it must be in writing, and what you’ll pay to leave early.
Look closely at the initial service discount. Aptive typically drops the price on your first treatment in exchange for a longer commitment, and if you cancel before the term ends, the contract usually requires you to repay the difference between that discounted rate and the standard price. Knowing the numbers in advance keeps a retention agent from quoting you figures you can’t verify on the spot.
The Three-Day Cooling-Off Window
If an Aptive sales rep signed you up at your front door, at a fair, or anywhere outside a permanent Aptive office, federal law gives you three business days to cancel without paying anything. The FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule covers door-to-door sales of $25 or more, and pest control contracts sold by traveling reps fall within that definition.1eCFR. 16 CFR Part 429 – Rule Concerning Cooling-off Period for Sales
At the time you signed, the salesperson was required to hand you two copies of a cancellation form. If they didn’t, the three-day clock arguably never started, which strengthens your position even weeks later. To use the right, fill out the cancellation form (or write your own notice) and mail or deliver it before midnight of the third business day after the sale. The seller then has ten business days to refund every payment you’ve made.2Federal Trade Commission. Cooling-off Period for Sales Made at Home or Other Locations
Some states extend this window beyond three days. Check your state attorney general’s website if you’re close to the deadline.
Canceling by Phone
Calling is the fastest route. Aptive’s customer support line is (855) 948-5816, open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time.3Aptive Pest Control. Contact Us A second support number is (855) 284-3733.4Aptive Pest Control. Welcome Email
Expect to be routed to a retention specialist whose job is to keep you. They may offer a discount, a service pause, or a free retreatment. If your mind is made up, say so directly and don’t engage the counter-offers; the longer you negotiate, the more ambiguity you create about whether you actually canceled. Before you hang up, ask for a cancellation confirmation number and write it down. If the rep can’t give you one, get their name, employee ID, and the exact time of the call.
Canceling in Writing
A written cancellation sent by certified mail with return receipt requested proves Aptive received your notice on a specific date. That signed green card is hard to argue with later.
Your letter should include:
- Your account number and the service address on file
- Direct cancellation language, such as “I am canceling my service agreement effective immediately,” with no hedging
- The specific date you want service to end
- A request to stop all automatic payments and a statement that you do not authorize future charges
- A request for written confirmation of the cancellation, sent to your mailing address and email
Send the letter to Aptive’s corporate address at 5132 North 300 West, Suite 150, Provo, Utah 84604. Use certified mail with return receipt, and keep a photocopy of everything.
Email and the Online Portal
Aptive accepts written notices at notices@aptivepestcontrol.com.4Aptive Pest Control. Welcome Email Email creates a timestamped record but doesn’t carry the same legal weight as certified mail. If you go this route, include everything you would put in a letter and ask for a confirmation reply.
Aptive also runs a customer portal at my.goaptive.com for appointments and billing. Whether the portal actually processes a full contract cancellation varies, and many customers report being sent back to the phone line. Don’t assume a change made through the portal counts as a formal cancellation unless you receive explicit written confirmation that your agreement has been terminated.
What the Early Termination Fee Costs
If you leave before your contract term ends, Aptive charges an early termination fee. Consumer complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau put this fee commonly at $199, though the exact number depends on your agreement and the size of the discount you got at signup. The fee is essentially a clawback of the introductory deal, calculated as the difference between what you paid for the first treatment and the standard rate.
Whether to pay or dispute the fee depends on your situation. If you signed a clear contract, received the treatments as promised, and simply want to move on, paying is the cleanest exit. If the salesperson misrepresented the service, technicians missed scheduled appointments, or you were signed up door-to-door without receiving the required cancellation disclosures, you have grounds to push back. Document every missed visit and every promise the company didn’t keep.
After You Cancel
Confirmation, even in writing, doesn’t guarantee the billing stops. Watch your bank and credit card statements for at least three months. Automated systems sometimes keep charging after a cancellation is processed, and catching an unauthorized charge within 60 days is critical for your dispute rights.
If Aptive placed bait stations or other equipment on your property, your contract may require you to allow a technician to collect them. Check the agreement for an equipment return clause. Companies often never schedule the pickup in practice, but knowing your obligation protects you from a surprise charge for unreturned equipment later.
Keep the cancellation confirmation number, all written correspondence, the certified mail receipt, and copies of your final invoice together. If a billing dispute surfaces six months from now, you’ll need every piece of it.
Disputing Charges That Keep Coming
If Aptive bills your credit card after you’ve canceled, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you a formal dispute process. You have 60 days from the date the statement containing the error was sent to submit a written dispute to your card issuer at the address they designate for billing inquiries.5Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors Your letter needs your name, account number, the disputed amount, and an explanation of why the charge is wrong.
The issuer must acknowledge the dispute within 30 days and resolve it within two billing cycles, no more than 90 days total. While the investigation is open, you don’t have to pay the disputed amount and the issuer can’t report it as delinquent.6Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges Attach copies of your cancellation confirmation and the certified mail receipt.
If the unpaid balance goes to a debt collector instead, you have 30 days from the validation notice to dispute the debt in writing. Once you do, the collector must stop all collection activity until they provide written verification that you owe the money.7Federal Trade Commission. Filing Complaints If Aptive Won’t Cooperate
When direct contact stops working, escalate. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau accepts complaints about unauthorized credit card charges and debt collection. File at consumerfinance.gov/complaint with your account details, a timeline, and supporting documents up to 50 pages. Companies typically respond within 15 days, and you have 60 days to give feedback on whether the response resolved the issue.8Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Submit a Complaint
Your state attorney general handles complaints about deceptive practices, including continued billing after cancellation and misrepresentation during door-to-door sales. Most AG offices offer an online complaint form. Individual complaints rarely trigger an intervention on their own, but a pattern across multiple consumers can open an investigation.
The Better Business Bureau is another channel. Aptive has drawn more than 1,300 complaints in the past three years, most about billing and service disputes. A BBB complaint won’t force action, but companies often reply to BBB complaints faster than to customer service requests because the record is public.
