In-N-Out Burger has never donated to Donald Trump as a company, because federal law bars corporations from giving directly to presidential candidates. But the question of whether In-N-Out supports Trump has a more complicated answer once you look past the corporate checkbook: the company’s political action committee and the people associated with it have given overwhelmingly to Republicans for decades, at least one senior executive has personally maxed out to Trump’s campaigns, and the company’s public conduct on pandemic mandates, wage laws, and its California headquarters has aligned it with conservative causes.
What “Corporate Donation” Actually Means
Federal law prohibits corporations from contributing directly to presidential candidates or political parties. What a company can do is run a PAC funded by executives and employees, which can give up to $5,000 per candidate per election cycle. Separately, individual employees, owners, and their family members can donate personally to whichever candidate they like.
That is why totals reported under “In-N-Out Burger” by trackers like OpenSecrets bundle PAC money with personal contributions from people who work at or own the company. OpenSecrets itself notes that the organization “does not contribute” directly; the numbers come from “the organization’s PACs, employees, owners, and their immediate families.”1OpenSecrets. In-N-Out Burger Summary A USA Today fact check found that claims about restaurant chains “donating to Trump” were partly false for exactly this reason: they conflated individual employee giving with official corporate support.2USA Today. Who at In-N-Out Has Given to Trump
The clearest personal financial link between In-N-Out and Trump runs through Mark Taylor, the company’s chief operating officer, and his wife Traci Taylor, who is the half-sister of owner Lynsi Snyder. Together they donated more than $15,000 to Trump and the Republican Party starting in August 2016. Mark Taylor gave $2,700 to “Donald J. Trump for President” that month and later contributed to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee and the Republican National Committee. Traci Taylor gave $5,000 to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee in October 2016, with more contributions through 2019. Both hit the individual contribution limit during the 2016 election and had excess donations returned.3Business Insider. In-N-Out Executive and Wife Donate Thousands to Trump
Owner and president Lynsi Snyder is a different story. She has no public record of personal donations to Trump or to any federal candidate, and reporting has consistently noted the absence of her name from FEC filings. One profile said she “isn’t affiliated with a political party.”4Deseret News. In-N-Out Is Moving Its HQ Out of California
In the 2024 cycle, the largest slice of Trump-related giving out of In-N-Out came from individual donors: Trump received $4,277, compared with $1,616 for Kamala Harris and $610 for Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego. The PAC’s biggest single check that cycle went to the Republican Party of California at $10,000. Total 2024 contributions came to $23,170, split 88.32% Republican and 11.68% Democratic.5OpenSecrets. The Longer Donation Record
Federal Election Commission data compiled by OpenSecrets shows that giving associated with In-N-Out has favored Republicans by wide margins for more than three decades. In every cycle from 1990 through 1998, 100% of reported contributions went to Republicans. In 2012, all $2,700 went to Republicans. In 2016, 98.41% of $16,312 did. In 2022, 98.98% of a much larger $757,981 total did.6OpenSecrets. In-N-Out Burger Totals
The 2022 spike included $750,000 in organizational soft money, likely tied to California ballot measures and the state Republican Party during that cycle.6OpenSecrets. In-N-Out Burger Totals At the state level, In-N-Out has donated at least $150,000 to the California Republican Party since 2016, with nearly $500,000 flowing to the party between 2021 and 2024.4Deseret News. Actions That Have Shaped the Trump-Adjacent Perception
Donation numbers are only part of why In-N-Out is often read as a Trump-friendly company. In October 2021, San Francisco health officials temporarily shut down the chain’s Fisherman’s Wharf location after employees refused to check customers’ vaccination status for indoor dining. Then-chief legal and business officer Arnie Wensinger said: “We refuse to become the vaccination police for any government.”7Forbes. The company also committed $12.8 million from 2022 to 2024 to the “Save Local Restaurants” committee opposing California legislation that established a $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers, and donated $500,000 in support of a 2024 ballot measure aimed at reducing homelessness, drug addiction, and theft.4Deseret News. In 2024, In-N-Out permanently closed its only Oakland location, citing “ongoing issues with crime” including car break-ins, property damage, and armed robberies. It was the first restaurant the company had ever permanently closed in its 75-year history.10SF Eater. In-N-Out Burger Oakland Closing Due to Crime
In 2025, Snyder announced she was moving her family from California to Franklin, Tennessee, where In-N-Out is building a regional office to support expansion into the Southeast and plans to open 35 restaurants supplied by an existing Texas warehouse.11Newsweek. The Democratic Side of the Ledger
The federal picture is decisively Republican, but California state records show In-N-Out also gives to Democratic state legislators. Recent contributions include $5,900 to Maggy Krell in November 2025, $5,500 each to Cottie Petrie-Norris and Josh Newman, and $5,000 each to Blanca Rubio and Anna Caballero. Total reported contributions to state legislators came to roughly $150,654.14Digital Democracy. In-N-Out Burger Organization Profile The company has also given to “Californians for Jobs and a Strong Economy,” a PAC that supports pro-business Democrats, with at least $60,000 during the 2017–18 cycle.15The Washington Post. \ After a 2018 California GOP donation prompted boycott calls, executive vice president Arnie Wensinger said In-N-Out had “made equal contributions to both Democratic and Republican Political Action Committees in the State of California” that year and supported “lawmakers who, regardless of political affiliation, promote policies that strengthen California.”16The Washington Post. California Democrat Urges Boycott of In-N-Out for Donating to GOP; the Burger Chain Gives to Democrats Too
So the “bipartisan” description is accurate at the state legislative level. It does not describe the federal record, and it does not describe the scale of giving to the California Republican Party.
Faith Branding Is a Separate Question
Part of the reason people read In-N-Out as culturally conservative is its longstanding Christian branding. Since the early 1990s, the chain has printed Bible verse citations on its packaging: John 3:16 on soda cups, Proverbs 24:16 on french fry containers, Luke 6:35 on coffee cups.17People. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder on Bible Verses on Packaging Snyder has spoken publicly about her evangelical faith and runs a nonprofit ministry called “Army of Love.”18USA Today. In-N-Out Owner Lynsi Snyder Interview on Bible Verses None of the available reporting connects her religious activism to Trump or to any specific partisan movement; her public statements have centered on faith, family, and business rather than electoral politics.
So, Does In-N-Out Support Trump?
As a company, no: In-N-Out cannot legally donate to a presidential candidate, and there is no record of it having supported Trump directly. As a broader political actor, the picture is different. The company’s PAC and associated individuals give overwhelmingly to Republicans at the federal level. COO Mark Taylor and his wife have personally donated thousands to Trump’s campaigns. The company has given hundreds of thousands to the California Republican Party, defied state pandemic mandates, spent millions opposing fast-food wage legislation, and watched its owner criticize California’s regulatory climate while relocating to Tennessee. At the same time, In-N-Out donates to business-friendly Democrats in Sacramento, and Snyder herself has no public record of contributing to Trump or any other federal candidate. Whether that adds up to “supporting Trump” depends on where you draw the line, but the conservative lean of the company’s political footprint is well documented.
